Oil Pan

  1. 1
Remove the sealant from the oil pan bolts and bolt holes in the lower cylinder block.
If the bolts are reused, remove the old sealant from the bolt threads. Tightening the bolt that has old sealant on it can cause thread damage.
Comparison diagram showing a bolt with OLD SEALANT on its threads (left) and the resulting CRACKS in the bolt hole (right), illustrating the caution against tightening bolts with old sealant.
  2. 2
Remove any dirt or oil from the contact surfaces.
  3. 3
Apply a continuous bead of silicone sealant to the oil pan along the inside of the bolt holes, and overlap the ends.

  4. 4
Install the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.

Knock Sensor

  1. 1
Install the knock sensor by using the SST.
