ASSEMBLY — Timing Belt Installation

B2-109prose procedure

K8-ZE V6 — timing belt routing across crankshaft, two idler pulleys, tensioner, and both camshaft pulleys.

Timing Belt (continued)

  1. 2
    Install the timing belt on the pulleys in the order described below: (1) Timing belt pulley, (2) No.2 idler pulley, (3) LH camshaft pulley, (4) Tensioner pulley, (5) RH camshaft pulley.
    Engine front showing the timing belt routing with numbered balloon callouts: (1) timing belt pulley (crankshaft), (2) No.2 idler pulley, (3) LH camshaft pulley, (4) tensioner pulley, (5) RH camshaft pulley, indicating the order the belt is installed.
  2. 3
    Verify that the belt has no looseness at the tension side.
  3. 4
    Install the No.1 idler pulley while applying the pressure on the timing belt.
    Tightening torque: 38—51 N·m {3.8—5.3 kgf·m, 28—38 ft·lbf}
    No.1 idler pulley being installed while applying pressure to the timing belt. A 'No.1 IDLER PULLEY' caption labels the pulley.
  4. 5
    Push the auto tensioner in the direction of the arrow and install the lower bolt.
    Auto tensioner being pushed in the direction of the arrow to install the lower bolt. An arrow points left toward the tensioner.
  5. 6
    Tighten the upper and lower tensioner bolts to the specified torque.
    Tightening torque: 19—25 N·m {1.9—2.6 kgf·m, 14—18 ft·lbf}
  6. 7
    Remove the pin from the auto tensioner, and apply tension to the belt.
    Tensioner pulley area after removing the pin from the auto tensioner to apply tension to the belt and tightening the tensioner pulley.
  7. 8
    Tighten the tensioner pulley.
    Tightening torque: 38—44 N·m {3.8—4.5 kgf·m, 28—32 ft·lbf}
  8. 9
    Turn the crankshaft clockwise twice in the direction of rotation, and align the timing marks.
    Engine front with timing belt installed; arrows point to the RH and LH camshaft pulley timing marks for verification after turning the crankshaft.
  9. 10
    Verify that the timing marks are correctly aligned. If not, repeat the procedure from "Timing Belt Auto Tensioner". (Refer to page B2-108.)
