ON-VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

B2-17prose procedure

Inspection

Inspect the following and repair or replace as necessary.

Inspection

  1. 1
Timing belt (Refer to page B2-85.)
  2. 2
Timing belt auto tensioner (Refer to page B2-85.)
  3. 3
Timing belt pulley (Refer to page B2-85.)
  4. 4
Camshaft pulleys (Refer to page B2-85.)

Installation Note

Timing belt auto tensioner

  1. 1
Slowly press the tensioner rod into the tensioner body by using a press.
Applying pressure of more than 9,807 N {1,000 kgf, 2,200 lbf} can damage the tensioner.
Illustration of the auto tensioner being compressed in a press; a 'ALIGN THE HOLES' label points to the alignment of the tensioner mounting holes.
  2. 2
Insert a pin into the second hole in the body as shown to hold the tensioner rod.
    Pin diameter: 1.6mm {0.063 in}
Illustration of the auto tensioner with a 'PIN' label pointing to a pin inserted into the second hole in the tensioner body to hold the rod.
  3. 3
Set the tensioner in place and snugly tighten the tensioner upper bolt.
This must be done to reduce the timing belt resistance when the idler pulley is installed.

Timing belt

  1. 1
Turn the camshaft pulleys clockwise and align the timing marks.
