Check the oil jets for clogging by applying compressed air. Replace if necessary.
Timing belt
- 1Replace the timing belt if there is any oil or grease on it.
- 2Check the timing belt for damage, wear, peeling, cracks, and hardening. Replace the timing belt if necessary.

CAUTION
The following will damage the belt and shorten its life: Forcefully twisting it, turning it inside out, bending it, or allowing oil or grease on it.
TIMING BELT AUTO TENSIONER, IDLER
CAUTION
Using cleaning fluids or a steam cleaner to clean the tensioner can dissolve the grease in its sealed bearing.
Timing belt auto tensioner, idler
- 1Use a clean, soft rag to wipe the tensioner or idler contact surface.

- 2If the tensioner or idler does not rotate smoothly, replace it.
- 3If there are silicone oil leaks, scratches or abnormal noise when turning the tensioner or idler, replace it.
- 4Check the tensioner pulley for rough rotation and abnormal noise. Replace it if necessary.
- 5Check the auto tensioner for oil leakage. Replace it if necessary.
- 6Check the tensioner rod projection (A). Replace the auto tensioner if necessary.

Inspect the teeth of each pulley for wear, deformation, and other damage. Replace if necessary.

Inspect the timing belt covers for damage and cracks. Replace if necessary.
