Assembly

B2-93prose procedure

V6 cylinder bank numbering: LH bank = No.2/4/6, RH bank = No.1/3/5. Pistons marked L for left bank, R for right bank.

Crankshaft / rear oil seal

  1. 3
    Measure the crankshaft end play.
    Line drawing of measuring crankshaft end play using a dial indicator mounted to the cylinder block, with a pry bar moving the crankshaft (arrow indicates direction of movement).
  2. 4
    If the end play exceeds the maximum, grind the crankshaft and install oversize thrust bearings or replace the crankshaft and thrust bearing.
  3. 5
    Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the lip of a new rear oil seal.
  4. 6
    Push the rear oil seal slightly in by hand.
  5. 7
    Tap the oil seal in evenly by using the SST and a hammer.
    Oil seal outer diameter: 93mm {3.66 in}
    Oil seal inner diameter: 75mm {2.87 in}
    Line drawing of installing the rear oil seal into the cylinder block using a special service tool (SST) and hammer.

Piston and Connecting Rod Assembly

  1. 1
    Rotate the engine as shown.
    Assembly is easier if the pistons are installed with the crankpin at the BDC position.
    Cylinder bank layout diagram. Left side labeled LH with cylinders No.2, No.4, No.6; right side labeled RH with cylinders No.1, No.3, No.5. Shows the cylinder numbering for the V6 engine.
  2. 2
    Remove any foreign material and oil from the connecting rod journals and bearings.
  3. 3
    Install the upper connecting rod bearings in the connecting rods.
  4. 4
    Apply a liberal amount of clean engine oil to the cylinder walls, pistons, piston rings and connecting rod cap bolts.
  5. 5
    Check the piston rings for proper end gap positioning.
  6. 6
    Insert the piston and connecting rod assembly into the cylinder block with the L mark (left bank) and the R mark (right bank) facing the front of the engine. Use a piston installer tool to install.
    Line drawing of the piston and connecting rod assembly showing the FRONT MARK on the piston crown, with R and L marks indicating right bank and left bank orientation.
