ON-VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

B2-19prose procedure

Timing belt (continued)

  1. 8
    Turn the crankshaft clockwise twice, and align the timing marks.
    Illustration of the front timing belt assembly; arrows point to the timing marks on the camshaft pulleys and crankshaft pulley to verify alignment after turning the crankshaft.
  2. 9
    Verify that all timing marks are correctly aligned. If necessary, repeat the procedure beginning from installation of the timing belt auto tensioner.
  3. 10
    Check the timing belt deflection by applying moderate pressure 98 N {10 kgf, 22 lbf} midway between the crankshaft pulley and the auto tensioner. If not correct, replace the auto tensioner.
    Deflection: 6.0-8.0mm {0.24-0.31in}
    Illustration of the timing belt; an arrow with label '98 N {10 kgf, 22 lbf}' points midway between the crankshaft pulley and the auto tensioner where moderate pressure is applied to check belt deflection.

Timing belt cover

  1. 1
    Install the right timing belt cover.
    Tightening torque: 7.9-10.7 N·m {80-110 kgf·cm, 70-95.4 in·lbf}
    Illustration of the right timing belt cover ('RH') installed over the camshaft pulley area.
  2. 2
    Install the left timing belt cover.
    Tightening torque: 7.9-10.7 N·m {80-110 kgf·cm, 70-95.4 in·lbf}
    Illustration of the left timing belt cover ('LH') installed over the camshaft pulley area.
  3. 3
    Install the crankshaft position sensor connector bracket on the left timing belt cover.
    Tightening torque: 7.9-10.7 N·m {80-110 kgf·cm, 70-95.4 in·lbf}
    Illustration of the left timing belt cover; arrows point to the crankshaft position sensor connector bracket being installed on the left cover.
