Inspection / Repair - Camshaft
B2-78spec tableJournal diameter table distinguishes RH (right-hand) vs LH (left-hand) camshafts and IN/EX, consistent with the K8-ZE V6's dual-bank DOHC layout.
Camshaft
- 1Visually inspect the helical gears and the friction gear. Replace the camshaft assembly if a problem is found with the helical gear. Replace the friction gear if a problem is found with it.
- 2Secure the camshaft cast hexagon in a vise protected with aluminum plates.

- 3Loosen the locknut and remove the friction gear.
- 4Assemble the friction gear so that the matching marks align.

- 5Set the No.1 and No.5 journals on V-blocks. Measure the camshaft runout. Replace the camshaft if necessary.

- 6Check the camshaft for wear and damage. Replace it if necessary.
- 7Measure the camshaft lobe height at the two points as shown. Replace the camshaft if necessary.

- 8Measure the journal diameters in X and Y directions at the two points (A and B) as shown. Replace the camshaft if necessary.

- 9Measure the camshaft journal oil clearances with the HLA removed. (1) Remove all foreign material and oil from the journals and the camshaft saddles. (2) Install the camshafts on the cylinder head.
