REFRIGERANT LINES

On-vehicle Inspection

Check for leakage at all connections by using a gas leak tester. (Refer to page G-51.) Repair or replace as necessary.

Refrigerant Lines — Removal / Installation

  1. 1
Discharge the refrigerant from the system.
  2. 2
Remove as shown in the figure. Immediately plug all open fittings to keep moisture out of the system.
    Cutaway engine-compartment view of the MX-3 (front-left three-quarter) showing the routing of the A/C refrigerant lines from the receiver/drier and compressor through the firewall to the evaporator, with tightening-torque callouts on each pipe/hose fitting. Torque values are in N·m {kgf·m, ft·lbf}. Callouts: 10—19 {1.0—2.0, 8—14} (top hose fittings), 20—29 {2.0—3.0, 15—21}, 15—21 {1.5—2.2, 11—15}, plus lower fittings 10—19 {1.0—2.0, 8—14} and 15—24 {1.5—2.5, 11—18}.
  3. 3
Install in the reverse order of removal. Apply clean compressor oil to the O-rings before connecting the fittings; do not apply compressor oil to the fitting nuts. When installing a new pipe or hose, add 5 ml {5 cc, 0.2 fl oz} of compressor oil through the high pressure side of the A/C compressor.
  4. 4
Evacuate, charge, and test the refrigeration system.
