IGNITION SYSTEM — Ignition Timing Adjustment (K8 DOHC)
G-23prose procedureK8 DOHC ignition timing adjustment. ATX uses P range, MTX uses neutral.
IGNITION TIMING
Adjustment
- 1Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and run it at idle (P range [ATX] or neutral [MTX]).
- 2Turn all electrical loads OFF.
- 3Turn the A/C switch OFF.
- 4Verify that the coolant fan does not operate.

K8 DOHC Ignition Timing
- 1Connect a tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG-. Connect a timing light as shown.

- 2Connect the data link connector terminals TEN and GND with a jumper wire.

- 3Check the idle speed.Specification: 550—950 rpm
- 4If necessary, adjust the idle speed. (Refer to section F2.)
- 5Check the ignition timing.Ignition timing: BTDC 9—11° (10 ± 1°)

- 6If the ignition timing is not as specified, loosen the distributor lock bolts and turn the distributor to make the adjustment.

- 7Tighten the distributor lock bolts to the specified torque.Tightening torque: 19—25 N·m {1.9—2.6 kgf·m, 14—18 ft·lbf}
- 8Disconnect a jumper wire.
- 9Check if the timing mark (yellow) on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing belt cover are aligned.Ignition timing: BTDC 6—18°
