Inspection (K8 DOHC)
Primary coil winding
- 1Disconnect the 3-pin connector from the distributor.
- 2Use an ohmmeter and measure resistance of the primary coil winding.

- 3If not within the specification, replace the distributor.

Secondary coil winding
- 1Disconnect the 3-pin connector from the distributor.
- 2Remove the distributor cap.
- 3Use an ohmmeter and measure resistance of the secondary coil winding.

- 4If not within the specification, replace the distributor.

Replacement
- 1Replace the distributor. (Refer to page G-29.)
- 2Adjust the ignition timing. (Refer to page G-23.)

Spark Test
WARNING
High voltage in the ignition device system can cause strong electrical shock. Avoid direct contact to the vehicle body during the following spark test.
Spark Test
- 1Disconnect the high-tension lead from a spark plug.

- 2Hold the lead with insulated pliers 5—10 mm {0.20—0.39 in} from a ground.
- 3Crank the engine and verify that a strong blue spark is visible.
