Check ABS wheel-speed sensor

  1. 1
On level ground, jack up the vehicle and support it evenly on safety stands.
Illustration of the ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR mounted at the wheel hub with the ABS SENSOR ROTOR. Shows two views of the sensor/rotor installation.
  2. 2
Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. 3
    Check for looseness and damage.
  4. 4
Check the clearance between the ABS wheel-speed sensor and the ABS sensor rotor.
Diagram showing the POLE PIECE of the ABS wheel-speed sensor and its CLEARANCE above the toothed ABS SENSOR ROTOR. Clearance dimension labeled 0.3-1.1 mm (0.012-0.043 in), with an arrow indicating rotor rotation direction.
  5. 5
If not as specified, replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor or ABS sensor rotor as needed.

Check resistance of ABS wheel-speed sensor

  1. 1
Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.
Illustration of an ohmmeter/multimeter connected to the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector to measure resistance/voltage.
  2. 2
Check resistance at the ABS wheel-speed sensor.

Check Voltage of ABS wheel-speed sensor

  1. 1
On level ground, jack up the vehicle and support it evenly on safety stands.
  2. 2
Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.
  3. 3
While rotating a wheel one revolution per second by hand, check for voltage at the ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal. Check each wheel.
  4. 4
If not as specified, replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor or ABS sensor rotor as needed.
  5. 5
Cancel the ABS control module memory.
