PARKING BRAKE CABLE

Parking brake cable removal / inspection / installation

    Remove the cable in the order shown in the figure.
    Exploded view of the parking brake cable assembly. Shows the rear console, parking brake lever with adjusting nut, return spring, front parking cable, rear parking cables routed to both rear drum/disc brakes. Balloon callouts 1-8. Tightening torques labeled: 16—22 N·m {1.6—2.3 kgf·m, 12—16 ft·lbf} and 19—25 N·m {1.9—2.6 kgf·m, 14—18 ft·lbf}. Grease application points indicated.

    Visually check each part, and replace it if necessary.
  3. 3
    Install in the reverse order of removal.
  4. 4
    Depress the brake pedal a few times and check the rear brakes do not drag while rotating the wheels.
  5. 5
    Adjust the parking brake lever stroke.
