Conventional Brake System — Inspection (Disc pad, Disc plate)

Inspection

Check for the following and repair or replace parts as necessary.

    Check for oil or grease on the facing, abnormal wear or cracks, and deterioration or damage from heat.
  2. 2
    Measure the thickness of the lining.
    A hand using a vernier caliper / scale to measure the thickness of a brake disc pad lining.
  3. 3
    Check visually for damage or wear of the guide plate.

  1. 1
    Measure the thickness of the disc plate.
    Caution: Runout will increase if the machining is performed off-vehicle.
    A hand using a micrometer to measure the thickness of the rear disc plate (rotor) while installed on the vehicle, with caliper and dust shield visible.

Runout

  1. 1
    Verify that there is no wheel bearing looseness. (Refer to section M)
  2. 2
    Measure the runout at the outer edge of the contact surface of the disc pad.
    A dial indicator set up against the outer edge of the disc plate (rotor) to measure runout, with the hub and wheel studs visible.
