Check brake switch

  1. 1
    Depress the brake pedal.
  2. 2
    Verify that the brake lights illuminate.
  3. 3
    If not illuminated, check the following: Brake light bulb; Brake light fuse; Brake switch; Brake switch harness; Brake light harness
  4. 4
    Repair or replace parts as necessary.

Check brake switch harness at ABS control module

  1. 1
    Turn the ignition switch OFF.

    Disconnect the ABS control module connector (12 pins).
  3. 3
    Turn the ignition switch ON.
  4. 4
    Check for voltage between terminal 1M at the vehicle side harness and ground. (Refer to page-64.)
    ABS control module connector terminal layout diagram (18-pin). Two rows of terminals; top row: 1M, 1K, (blank/X), 1E, 1C, 1A; bottom row: 1N, 1L, 1J, 1H, 1F, 1D, 1B. Terminal 1M is the vehicle-side harness check point.

    If not as specified, check wiring harness between the brake switch and the ABS control module.
