Air Cleaner Element Inspection
- 1Check the air cleaner element for excessive dirt and for oil and damage.Cleaning the element with compressed air will reduce the element's ability to filter the air. Don't use compressed air to clean the element.

- 2Replace the element if necessary.

Adjustment Preparation
- 1Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
- 2Turn all electrical loads off: Headlight switch; Blower switch; Rear window defroster switch; P/S; A/C
- 3Connect the SST to the data link connector.

- 4Connect a timing light.
- 5Connect a tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG- as shown.
Ignition Timing
- 1Perform "Preparation". (Refer to above.)
- 2Verify that the coolant fan does not operate.
- 3Make sure the idle speed is within the specification. If not, adjust the idle speed (Refer to page F2-71).
- 4Set switch A to position 1.

- 5Set TEST SW to SELF TEST
