Air Cleaner Element

Air Cleaner Element Inspection

  1. 1
    Check the air cleaner element for excessive dirt and for oil and damage.
    Cleaning the element with compressed air will reduce the element's ability to filter the air. Don't use compressed air to clean the element.

    Replace the element if necessary.

    Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. 2
    Turn all electrical loads off: Headlight switch; Blower switch; Rear window defroster switch; P/S; A/C
  3. 3
    Connect the SST to the data link connector.

    Connect a timing light.

    Connect a tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG- as shown.

Ignition Timing

    Perform "Preparation". (Refer to above.)
  2. 2
    Verify that the coolant fan does not operate.
  3. 3
    Make sure the idle speed is within the specification. If not, adjust the idle speed (Refer to page F2-71).
  4. 4
    Set switch A to position 1.
    Ignition timing setup illustration. The System Selector (49 B019 9A0) is connected via leads to the TEN and GND terminals; switch A and TEST SW are labeled. Used to set switch A to position 1 and TEST SW to SELF TEST.
