EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM

F2-128prose procedure

Step 5 differs for MTX (disconnect neutral switch connector) vs ATX (place on chassis roller, selector to D).

System Operation

  1. 1
Warm up the engine to normal operation temperature.
  2. 2
    Run the engine at idle.
  3. 3
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the purge solenoid valve.
Engine-bay view showing the PURGE SOLENOID VALVE with a hand disconnecting the vacuum hose from it. Labelled PURGE SOLENOID VALVE.
  4. 4
    Check that no vacuum's felt.
  5. 5
Disconnect the neutral switch connector. (MTX) Position the vehicle on the chassis roller and shift the selector lever to D (ATX).
Underbody view showing the DRIVE SHAFT and the neutral switch connector being disconnected on the transaxle.
  6. 6
Connect a tachometer and increase the engine speed to 1200 rpm.
Close-up of a hand connecting a tachometer / checking vacuum at the throttle area with an arrow indicating the connection point.
  7. 7
Check that vacuum is felt approx. 10 sec. after.

PURGE SOLENOID VALVE

Inspection

  1. 1
    Remove the solenoid valve.
  2. 2
Blow through the solenoid valve from hose A and check that air dose not flow from B.

  3. 3
Apply battery positive voltage to solenoid valve and check that air dose flow from hose A to B.
Detail drawing of the purge solenoid valve with battery positive voltage applied. Connector terminals labelled GROUND and B+; valve ports labelled A and B; a battery is drawn at lower right.
  4. 4
If not as specified, measure the resistance of the solenoid valve.
    Resistance: 23-27 Ω [20°C {68°F}]
