ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)

F2-141prose procedure

Removal / Installation

  1. 1
Remove in the order shown in the figure.
Exploded view of the ECM mounting behind the side wall trim. Numbered balloon callouts: 1 negative battery cable (shown in a separate inset at lower-left), 2 side wall trim panel, 3 fuel pump relay, 4 ECM. Lettered bolt callouts A, B, C, D mark fasteners. Torque callouts read 7.9-10.7 N·m {80-110 kgf·cm, 70-95 in-lbf} (shown twice). A unit legend in the bottom-right corner reads N·m {kgf·m, ft-lbf}.
  2. 2
Install in the reverse order of removal.

Inspection

  1. 1
    Disconnect the ECM connector.
  2. 2
Connect the SSTs (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter) to the ECM as shown. Use connector A of the Adaptor to check the voltages at terminals 1A through 1V and at terminals 3A through 3Z. Use connector B to check the voltages at terminals 2A though 2P.
Diagram of the ECM inspection hookup: the ECM connector connects via SST adapter harness (49 T018 902) and harness adapter (49 D088 008) to the Engine Signal Monitor (49 9200 162A) fitted with the 64-pin sheet (49 G018 906).
  3. 3
Place the SST (Sheet) on the Engine Signal Monitor.
Illustration of the Engine Signal Monitor (49 G018 906 sheet installed) with terminals A and B at the top right and an analog meter.
  4. 4
Measure the voltage at each terminal. (Refer to pages F2-142 through F2-149.)
  5. 5
If any ECM terminal voltage is incorrect, check the related input or output devices and wiring. If no problem is found, replace the ECM.
