TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE — 26 POOR FUEL ECONOMY
F2-66flowchart26 POOR FUEL ECONOMY
DESCRIPTION: Fuel economy unsatisfactory
NOTE
[TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS]
Although fuel consumption is drastically increased by such operation as city driving, short-runs, stop-and-go driving, and extended winter warm-up periods, as opposed to "trip" mileage, an attempt should be made to determine if any of these factors were an influence when confronted with "poor mileage". However, since the operator and driving conditions are not always at fault, the following suggestions are offered as possible other reasons for poor mileage.
1. Operator depressing accelerator pedal more than usual because of low engine power: Poor ignition; Low intake air amount; Electronic spark advance control system malfunction; Clutch slipping; Exhaust component restricted
2. Air/fuel mixture too rich: High fuel line pressure
3. Alcohol-blended fuel used
4. High vehicle load: Low tire pressure; Incorrect tire size; Brake dragging
