CONTROL SYSTEM — Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment / Replacement

F2-151prose procedure

Adjustment

Closed throttle position switch

  1. 1
Turn the ignition switch to OFF and the throttle valve to the closed throttle position.
Throttle body with throttle lever and stopper; a feeler gauge is inserted between the stopper and the throttle lever. Callouts: THROTTLE LEVER, STOPPER, FEELER GAUGE.
  2. 2
Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
Two sub-figures: left shows the throttle position sensor mounted on the throttle body; right shows a circuit tester (ohmmeter) connected to the sensor connector with leads/terminals labeled C, D (top) and B, A (bottom).
  3. 3
Loosen the throttle position sensor screws.
  4. 4
Rotate the throttle position sensor and adjust continuity between the sensor terminals C and D as shown.
  5. 5
    Tighten the throttle position sensor screws. Tightening torque: 1.6—2.3 N·m {16—24 kgf·cm, 14—20 in·lbf}

Variable resister

  1. 1
Remove the ECM. (Refer to page F2-141.)
  2. 2
Connect the SSTs to the ECM connector as shown.
Exploded view of the throttle position sensor and its attaching screws being installed onto the throttle body. Callout: THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR.
  3. 3
Verify that the throttle valve is at the closed throttle position.
  4. 4
    Loosen the attaching screws.
  5. 5
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  6. 6
Measure the ECM terminal 2F voltage.
  7. 7
Adjust the voltage to the specification. Specification: Closed throttle position: 0.1—1.1V; Wide open throttle: 2.8—4.5V (Verify that the voltage increase is directly proportioned to the throttle valve opening angle.)
  8. 8
    Tighten the attaching screws. Tightening torque: 1.6—2.3 N·m {16—24 kgf·cm, 14—20 in·lbf}
  9. 9
If not adjusted, replace the throttle position sensor.

Replacement

  1. 1
Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
Throttle position sensor installation detail showing the alignment tabs and tangs/slot. Callouts: TAB B, TANG A, TAB A, SLOT, TANG B, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR.
  2. 2
    Remove the attaching screws.
  3. 3
    Remove the throttle position sensor.
  4. 4
Verify that the throttle valve is at the closed throttle position.
