Fuel Pressure and Servicing Fuel System

Fuel in the fuel system is under high pressure when the engine is not running.

Fuel Line Safety Procedures

A. Release the fuel pressure before disconnecting a fuel line.

  1. 1
    Start the engine.
  2. 2
    Remove the fuel pump relay.
  3. 3
After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  4. 4
    Install the fuel pump relay.

B. Avoid leakage.

  1. 1
When disconnecting a fuel line hose, wrap a rag around it to protect against fuel leakage.
  2. 2
    Plug the hose after removal.
C. Install hose clamps to secure the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel filter and the main hose.

Priming Fuel System

After the fuel pressure has been released for repairs or inspection, the system must be primed to avoid excessive cranking when the engine is first started. Follow the steps below.

Priming Fuel System

  1. 1
Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
Two stacked sub-diagrams. Left: data link connector pinout with a jumper wire bridging terminals GND and F/P. Right: data link connector with a JUMPER WIRE installed, labeled DATA LINK CONNECTOR.
  2. 2
Turn the ignition switch to ON for approximately 10 sec. and check for fuel leaks.
  3. 3
Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the jumper wire.
