Engine compressionSTEP 8
981 kPa {10.0 kgf/cm², 142 psi}-300 rpm
Plug gapSTEP 9, spark plug

2 CRANKS NORMALLY BUT WILL NOT START (NO COMBUSTION) — STEP / INSPECTION / ACTION (continued, steps 4–10)

1
STEP 5: Is there fuel injector operating sound while engine is being cranked?
No (Go to next step)
STEP 6: Does B+ exist at fuel injector connector with ignition switch ON?
Yes (Go to step 7)
2
STEP 7: Connect data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using jumper wire; Is fuel line pressure correct with the ignition switch ON? (page F2-107) Fuel line pressure: 260–310 kPa {2.6–3.2 kgf/cm², 37–45 psi}
No — Low pressure
Low pressure: Check fuel line pressure while pinching fuel return hose (page F2-113). If pressure quickly increases, check pressure regulator. If pressure gradually increases, check for clogging between fuel pump and pressure regulator; if hose is not clogged, check fuel pump maximum pressure (page F2-110).

If pressure gradually increases, check for clogging between fuel pump and pressure regulator; if hose is not clogged, check fuel pump maximum pressure (page F2-110).
No — High pressure
High pressure: Is fuel return hose clogged or restricted? If it is not, replace pressure regulator (page F2-115). If it is, repair or replace it.
Yes (Go to next step)
3
STEP 8: Is engine compression correct? Engine compression: 981 kPa {10.0 kgf/cm², 142 psi}-300 rpm
No
Check engine condition: Worn piston, piston rings, or cylinder wall; Defective cylinder head gasket; Distorted cylinder head; Improper valve seating; Valve stuck in guide.
Check engine condition: Worn piston, piston rings, or cylinder wall; Defective cylinder head gasket; Distorted cylinder head; Improper valve seating; Valve stuck in guide.
Yes (Go to next step)
4
STEP 9: Are all spark plugs OK? (section G)
No
Clean or replace spark plug (section G)
Yes (Go to next step)
5
STEP 10: Try a known good ECM; and check if condition improves (page F2-141)
