CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

Inspection

Crankshaft Position Sensor Inspection

  1. 1
    Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
    Crankshaft position sensor connector. Engine-bay view with a multimeter probing the connector terminals; the connector is shown enlarged at lower right with terminals labeled a, b, c.
  2. 2
    Measure the resistance between terminals A and B.
  3. 3
    Replace the crankshaft position sensor if not as specified.

Removal / Installation

Crankshaft Position Sensor Removal / Installation

  1. 1
    Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. 2
    Remove the idler pulley bracket.
    Idler pulley bracket and surrounding accessory drive area with tightening-torque callouts for two bolt locations.
  3. 3
    Remove the dipstick pipe.
  4. 4
    Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
  5. 5
    Install in the reverse order of removal.
  6. 6
    Adjust the drive belt deflection. (Refer to section B2.)

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (IN DISTRIBUTOR)

Inspection

Camshaft Position Sensor (In Distributor) Inspection

  1. 1
    Remove the distributor. (Refer to section G.)
  2. 2
    Verify that the distributor connector (3-pin) is disconnected.
  3. 3
    Connect the distributor connector (6-pin) as shown in the figure.

    Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
  5. 5
    Turn the ignition switch ON.
  6. 6
    Connect the SSTs (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter Harness) to the ECM.
  7. 7
    Rotate the distributor drive by hand and measure the output voltage.

Camshaft Position Sensor Inspection (continued)

  1. 8
    After the inspection, install the distributor. (Refer to section G.)
  2. 9
    Start the engine and adjust the ignition timing. (Refer to page F2-70.)
  3. 10
    Tighten the distributor lock bolts to the specified torque.
