TRANSAXLE — Bearing preload verification (differential, primary, secondary)

J2-41prose procedure

Bearing preload verification specs differ per shaft: differential 1.4-1.9 N·m, primary 0.1-0.2 N·m, secondary 0.2-0.4 N·m

Bearing preload verification (continued)

  1. 3
Install the SST to the differential.
Connecting a torque wrench to the SST installed on the differential to measure the bearing preload. Tool 49 FT01 515A labeled at lower right.
  2. 4
Connect a torque wrench to the SST and measure the preload.
  3. 5
    Remove the SST.
  4. 6
With the transaxle facing in the direction shown in the figure, install the SST to the primary shaft gear assembly.
Connecting a torque wrench to the SST installed on the primary shaft gear assembly to measure the preload. Tool 49 B017 102 labeled.
  5. 7
Connect a torque wrench to the SST and measure the preload.
  6. 8
Remove the SST, transaxle case, primary shaft gear assembly and differential.
  7. 9
Install the secondary shaft gear assembly and transaxle case, and tighten to the specified torque.
  8. 10
Install the SST to the secondary shaft gear assembly.
Connecting a torque wrench to the SST installed on the secondary shaft gear assembly to measure the preload. Tool 49 G017 202 labeled.
  9. 11
Connect a torque wrench to the SST and measure the preload.
