Engine Speed Sensing Power Steering — Drive Belt (B6 DOHC)

N-51spec table

B6 DOHC engine drive belt. Belt routing differs for P/S only vs P/S and A/C.

DRIVE BELT (B6 DOHC)

Inspection

Drive belt inspection

  1. 1
    Check the drive belt for wear, cracks and fraying. Replace as necessary.
  2. 2
    Verify that the drive belts are correctly mounted on the pulleys.
    Two belt-routing diagrams showing where to check drive-belt deflection. Left (P/S): belt around CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, P/S OIL PUMP PULLEY with an arrow at the midpoint between them. Right (P/S AND A/C): belt around CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, P/S OIL PUMP PULLEY and A/C COMPRESSOR PULLEY, arrow at the check point.
  3. 3
    Check the drive belt deflection when the engine is cold, or at least 30 minutes after the engine has stopped. Apply moderate pressure (98 N {10 kgf, 22 lbf}) midway between the specified pulleys.
  4. 4
    If the deflection is not within specification, adjust it.

Deflection

Deflection mm{in}

8.0-9.0 {0.32-0.35}
Used9.0-10.0 {0.36-0.39}
Limit11.5 {0.45}

Drive belt tension check

  1. 1
    Belt tension can be checked in place of belt deflection. Check the drive belt tension when the engine is cold, or at least 30 minutes after the engine has stopped. Using the SST, check the belt tension between any two pulleys.
    Belt-tension gauge SST 49 9200 020 placed on the belt between two pulleys, shown WHEN MEASURED (gauge applied to belt span) and WHEN SET (gauge zeroed/positioned).
  2. 2
    If the tension is not within specification, adjust it.

Tension

Tension N{kgf·lbf}

491-588 {50-60, 110-132}
Used422-490 {43-50, 95-110}
Limit245 {25, 55}

Adjustment

Drive belt adjustment

  1. 1
    Loosen bolt (A), locknut (B), and nut (C). Turn adjusting bolt (D) to adjust the belt to the specified deflection and tension.
    Adjustment diagram: belt around CRANK SHAFT PULLEY and P/S OIL PUMP PULLEY with an arrow marking the deflection point and lettered callouts A (bolt), B (locknut), C (nut), and D (adjusting bolt) on the bracket/adjuster.
  2. 2
    Tighten nut (C), bolt (A), and locknut (B) to the specified torques.
Tightening torque - Bolt A
363 - 520N·m
Tightening torque - Nut B
186 - 245N·m
Tightening torque - Locknut C
314 - 451N·m

Replacement

Drive belt replacement

  1. 1
    Loosen bolt (A), nut (C), and locknut (B).
    Replacement diagram: belt around CRANK SHAFT PULLEY and P/S OIL PUMP PULLEY with an arrow at the belt span and lettered callouts A (bolt), B (locknut), C (nut), D (adjusting bolt).
  2. 2
    Turn adjusting bolt (D) to release the belt tension.
  3. 3
    Remove the belt.
  4. 4
    Install a new drive belt and adjust the tension and deflection. (Refer to above for adjustment.)
