10. Support yoke

  1. 1
    Secure the gear housing in a vise so that the support yoke position faces upward.
    Gear housing secured in a vise with the support yoke position facing upward; support yoke and spring being installed.
  2. 2
    Apply grease to the rack sliding surface of the support yoke, then install it in the housing.
  3. 3
    Install the support yoke.
  4. 4
    Install the spring.

11. Adjusting cover and locknut

  1. 1
    Apply sealant to the adjusting cover and temporarily tighten it to a torque of 11 N·m {110 kgf·cm, 95 in·lbf}.
    Hand using SST 49 B032 320 with a torque wrench to tighten the adjusting cover.
  2. 2
    Move the rack back and forth approx. 3 times and loosen the adjusting cover.
  3. 3
    Retighten the adjusting cover to the specified torque and then loosen it 0—40°.
  4. 4
    Tighten the locknut with the SST.
  5. 5
    Measure the pinion starting torque with the SST and a pull scale.
    Measuring the pinion starting torque using SST 49 0180 510B and a pull scale.
  6. 6
    If not as specified, repeat Steps 3 to 5.
Tightening torque (adjusting cover)
44 - 52N·m
StartingAt ±90° from the straight-ahead position (Pull scale reading: 1.0—1.4 kgf {2.2—3.0 lbf})
9.8 - 13N·m
StartingAt other position (Pull scale reading: 1.7 kgf {3.7 lbf} max.)
16N·m

12. Tie rod

  1. 1
    Install the tie rod (with air bled out) at the rack housing side.

    Secure the rack in a vise.
    Installing the new washer and tie rod onto the steering rack secured in a vise.

    Install the new washer and tie rod onto the steering rack.
  4. 4
    Align the washer with the rack groove, and crimp the washer.
Tightening torque (tie rod)
579 - 765N·m
