Locknut

Mark the tie-rod end, the locknut, and the tie rod.

Tie-rod end boot

Tie-rod end boot (Removal)

  1. 1
    Secure the tie-rod end ball joint in a vise.

    Place a chisel against the boot and hold it at the angle shown.
  3. 3
    Remove the boot by tapping it with a hammer.

Installation Note

Tie-rod end boot (Installation)

  1. 1
    Wipe the grease off the tie-rod end ball joint.

    Put a small amount of lithium-based grease into a new dust boot.
  3. 3
    Install the dust boot onto the tie-rod end ball joint by using the SST and a press.
  4. 4
    Wipe away any excess grease.
