Power Steering Fluid — Inspection of Fluid Pressure

N-10prose procedure

Fluid-leakage figure shown for K8 DOHC. SST hookup differs between B6 DOHC and K8 DOHC; transverse member removal only required for K8 engine.

Inspection of fluid pressure

  1. 1
    Assemble the SSTs as shown in the figure. Remove the transverse member. (K8 engine) (Refer to section R.)
    Tightening torque: 40—49 N·m {4.0—5.0 kgf·m, 29—36 ft·lbf}
    Two side-by-side SST hookup schematics for measuring fluid pressure. Left labelled 'B6 DOHC' shows gauge set 49 1232 670A, adapter 49 H002 671 and adapter 49 B032 304 plumbed inline. Right labelled 'K8 DOHC' shows gauge set 49 1232 670A and adapter 49 H002 671.
  2. 2
    Mark both hose connections to ensure that the hose is re-installed in its original position.
  3. 3
    Disconnect the pressure hose on the oil pump side, and attach the SSTs.

  4. 4
    Bleed the air from the system. (Refer to page N-8.)
  5. 5
    Open the gauge valve fully. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel fully left and right to raise the fluid temperature to 50—60 °C {122—140°F}.
