Removal / Installation

  1. 1
    Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note.
    Exploded view of the front axle / wheel hub and steering knuckle assembly. Numbered balloons 1-9 identify wheel nut, wheel and tire, locknut, brake caliper assembly, disc plate, ABS wheel-speed sensor, tie-rod end, lower ball joint, and knuckle/wheel hub/dust cover. Tightening torques are printed beside fasteners; 'SST' marks the tie-rod end tool, 'COTTER PIN, REPLACE' and 'REPLACE' notes are called out. Units footnote: N·m {kgf·m, ft·lbf}.

    Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.

    Install in the reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.

    After installation, check the wheel alignment, referring to Section R.

Removal Note

Locknut

  1. 1
    Knock the crimped portion of the locknut outward by using a small chisel and hammer.
    Removal Note — Locknut. A chisel and hammer are used to knock the crimped portion of the locknut outward on the wheel hub.
  2. 2
    Lock the hub by applying the brakes.
  3. 3
    Remove the locknut.
