COOLANT FAN MOTOR

E2-12prose procedure

MTX (manual transaxle) uses a single-speed coolant fan motor (11.0 A); ATX (automatic transaxle) uses a two-speed motor (low 12.0 A, high 16.8 A).

INSPECTION

MTX (Single-speed type)

  1. 1
Check that the battery is fully charged.
  2. 2
Disconnect the coolant fan motor connector.
  3. 3
Connect the battery and an ammeter to the fan motor connector.
Test hookup for the MTX single-speed coolant fan motor. Shows the radiator/coolant fan assembly with its connector wired to an ammeter (A) and a battery (+/-) for current draw inspection.
  4. 4
Verify that the fan motor operates smoothly at the standard current.
    Current: 11.0 A
  5. 5
If the fan motor is faulty, replace the fan motor.

ATX (Two-Speed Type)

  1. 1
Check that the battery is fully charged.
  2. 2
Disconnect the coolant fan motor connector.
  3. 3
Connect the battery and an ammeter to the fan motor connector for low-speed inspection.
Test hookup for the ATX two-speed coolant fan motor low-speed inspection. Shows the radiator/coolant fan assembly connector wired to an ammeter (A) and battery for low-speed current measurement.
  4. 4
Verify that the fan motor operates smoothly at the standard current.
    Current: 12.0 A
  5. 5
Connect the battery and an ammeter to the fan motor connector for high-speed inspection.
Test hookup for the ATX two-speed coolant fan motor high-speed inspection. Shows the radiator/coolant fan assembly connector wired to an ammeter (A) and battery for high-speed current measurement.
  6. 6
Verify that the fan motor operates smoothly at the standard current.
    Current: 16.8 A
  7. 7
If the fan motor is faulty, replace the fan motor.
